Section 13 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act is amended by adding the following after subsection (1): Right to sponsor one additional relative (1.1) Subject to the regulations, a Canadian citizen or permanent resident may, once in their lifetime, sponsor one foreign national who is a relative but is not a member of the family class. Definition of “relative” (1.2) For the purposes of subsection (1.1), “relative” means (a) a brother or sister of the sponsor; (b) an uncle or aunt of the sponsor; (c) a nephew or niece of the sponsor; (d) a first cousin of the sponsor; or (e) a child of the sponsor who is 22 years of age or older and is not dependent on the sponsor.
