451-00949 (Transportation)

Presented to the House of Commons

Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament assembled, the Government of Canada, the Prime Minister, and the Minister of Transport WHEREAS We strongly support sustainable and accessible transportation that reduces emissions, and eases congestion; The Alto High-Speed Rail (Alto HSR) project connecting Toronto to Quebec City fails to meet these goals and instead represents a massive misallocation of public resources; The project is projected to cost between $60 and $90 billion, which represents an unacceptable cost to taxpayers; These funds could instead be invested in upgrading existing national rail systems, highways, and EV charging infrastructure; The dedicated high-speed line will connect only four urban centres (Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, and select stops like Peterborough and Trois-Rivières), while bypassing all other communities along the corridor; Construction will involve the extensive use of Expropriation, Orders to Prohibit Work on private property, and other measures that will destroy or reduce the value of property that in many cases represents most of the wealth of residents of land near where the rail line will pass; The high-speed rail will create an impenetrable barrier between areas lying on either side, permanently bisecting communities with relatively few overpasses connecting these communities, and bisecting local trails and ecosystems; Communities in regions like eastern Ontario, the Quinte area, Frontenac County, Lanark County, and others already facing proposed route variants have voiced strong opposition due to these harms. We, the undersigned residents, taxpayers, and concerned citizens of communities along the proposed Alto corridor, call on the House of Commons in Parliament assembled, the Government of Canada, the Prime Minister, and the Minister of Transport to: immediately cancel the proposed Alto High-Speed Rail project connecting Toronto to Quebec City; and in the event that the Ottawa-Montreal part of the project goes forward, to restrict the ability of ALTO to begin the process of expropriation or any other restriction on the use of private property, until such time as the first leg of the ALTO route has been completed; and in the event that such restrictions on property rights do begin, to restore to property owners along the route the full rights that they would have had, if parts of the Expropriation Act had not been suspended for the purposes of the construction of this project.

Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament assembled Whereas: Members of Parliament are elected to represent their constituents, often under a specific party affiliation or platform; A change in party affiliation during a parliamentary term may alter the basis on which voters made their decision; Canadians expect transparency and accountability in democratic representation; and There is currently no formal requirement for Members of Parliament to seek constituent input when changing their party affiliation. We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada,, call upon theGovernment of Canadato establish a formal process requiring any Member of Parliament who changes their party affiliation during a parliamentary term to seek the approval of their constituents through a transparent and democratic mechanism before continuing to sit under a new affiliation.

Petition to the House of Commons Whereas: Indian Residential Schools operated in Canada from 1831 until 1997, and over 150,000 First Nations, Inuit, and Red River Métis children were forced to attend; Generations of Indigenous children were directly affected, and the loss of language, culture, and wellbeing reverberates through their descendants; The Truth and Reconciliation Commission recognized the system as cultural genocide, and its harms constitute an ongoing federal fiduciary duty; The Residential Schools Missing Children Community Support Fund, which enables Indigenous Nations and communities to locate unmarked burial sites, search for missing children, and conduct archival research, is sunsetting in 2026 with no renewed commitment; Federal funding for Survivor healing and cultural supports is also being reduced, while recovery is far from complete; Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls 72 through 76 on missing children and burial records and Calls 21 and 22 on Indigenous healing, remain unfulfilled; and Canada is committed under the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act to uphold Indigenous self-determination and culturally appropriate services. We, the undersigned,Citizens and residents of Canada, call upon theGovernment of Canadato 1. Implement statutory funding for the Missing Children Community Support Fund, so Indigenous-led work to locate missing children and unmarked graves continues. 2. Implement statutory funding for Survivor Supports, healing, and cultural services for First Nations, Inuit, and Red River Métis families and Nations; and 3. Ensure these programs remain Indigenous-led and Survivor-centered, consistent with UNDRIPA and the TRC’s 94 Calls to Action.

Petition to the Government of Canada Whereas: Post-secondary education is increasingly necessary for participation in the Canadian economy, yet many students graduate with significant levels of debt. The rising cost of living, including housing, food, and transportation, has made it increasingly difficult for recent graduates to meet their financial obligations Many graduates are required to begin repayment of student loans prior to securing stable, full-time employment Student debt contributes to prolonged financial insecurity and may delay important life decisions, including career development and financial independence. We, the undersigned,Citizens (or permanent residents) of Canada, call upon theGovernment of Canadato 1. Extend the student loan grace period from six months to a minimum of twelve months to better support graduates transitioning into the workforce. 2. Permit the commencement of student loan repayment only once individuals have reached a stable and sufficient level of income. 3. Introduce more flexible repayment terms to reduce financial strain during the early stages of graduates’ careers. 4. Enhance and expand income-based repayment programs to ensure greater accessibility, effectiveness, and fairness. 5. Ensure that student loan repayment policies are responsive to current economic conditions and promote equitable outcomes for all graduates

Presented to the House of Commons

Petition to the Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Nature WHEREAS: Canada has established federal regulations requiring all unabated coal-fired electricity generation across all provinces to cease operation by December 31, 2029; Continued coal-powered electricity generation significantly increases greenhouse gas emissions and undermines Canada's climate commitments; Saskatchewan has indicated its intention to continue operating coal-fired power stations beyond this federal deadline, contrary to federal regulations; and The Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Nature is responsible under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act to administer and enforce federal regulations governing coal-fired electricity generation. We, the undersigned, residents of Canada, call upon the Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Nature to: 1. Take all necessary measures within federal jurisdiction to prevent the continued operation of unabated coal-fired electricity generation in Saskatchewan beyond the federally mandated phase-out date of December 31, 2029; 2. Confirm what specific steps the Minister has taken, or plans to take, to ensure compliance with these regulations in Saskatchewan; and 3. Presented to the House of Commons

PETITION TO THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA WHEREAS the Indian Head Agricultural Research Farm has provided practical, field-based agricultural research for more than a century, supporting farmers with innovations in soil health, crop management, productivity, and risk reduction; and WHEREAS the closure of the Indian Head Agricultural Research Farm will result in the loss of approximately 40 skilled jobs in rural Saskatchewan; and WHEREAS agricultural research farms play a critical role in strengthening Canada's food security, improving on-farm success, and helping producers adapt to changing economic and environmental conditions; and WHEREAS the Government of Canada claims that there are insufficient resources to maintain the Indian Head Agricultural Research Farm despite being able to find billions of taxpayer dollars annually to waste on consultants and ideological programs in other countries; and WHEREAS shutting down domestic agricultural research weakens innovation, increases risk for producers, and undermines Canada's long-term agricultural competitiveness; therefore WE THE UNDERSIGNED, citizens and/or residents of Saskatchewan, call upon the Government of Canada to reverse the decision to shut down the Indian Head Agricultural Research Farm.

Petition to the Government of Canada Whereas: Ontario Premier Doug Ford has called for jets at the Toronto Island Airport, and has introduced a bill to undemocratically take over Toronto's role in the airport. Toronto's waterfront has seen billions in investment from all three levels of government, and has returned billions more to the economy. Jets would put that investment at risk and conflict with affordable housing plans on the East Waterfront, adding significant pollution and traffic while harming birds and animals. We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon theGovernment of Canadato exercise their authority as a signatory in the Toronto Island Airport Tripartite Agreement and save our waterfront by saying no to jets at the Toronto Island Airport.
