This Act may be cited as the Bottled Water Labelling Act. INTERPRETATION Definitions 2. The following definitions apply in this Act. “bottled water”« eau embouteillée » “bottled water” means any potable water packaged for sale, including water obtained from an underground source and water obtained from a public community water supply. “Minister”« ministre » “Minister” means the Minister of Health. REGULATIONS Regulations 3. Despite anything in the Food and Drugs Act or the regulations made under that Act, the Minister shall, within nine months after the day on which this Act comes into force, make regulations providing that no person shall import or package bottled water for sale unless a label is affixed to the package clearly showing (a) the total dissolved mineral salt content of the water, expressed in parts per million; (b) the source from which the water was obtained; (c) the name and total amount, expressed in parts per million, of any added ingredient; (d) the date on which the bottled water was packaged and the expiry date; (e) the statement “Refrigerate after opening”; (f) the manufacturer’s toll-free telephone number; and (g) a warning about the possibility of chemical leaching if the packaging contains polyethylene terephthalate (PETP).
